About the HEF

Reflecting on Fall 2012, Looking Forward to 2013

In our 10 year, your Helena Education Foundation continues our work to enhance the experiences of public education students and teachers in Montana's capital city. Working with local businesses, community leaders, school administrators, teachers, parents and students, HEF sponsors a wide array of events annually to promote innovation and excellence in schools and ongoing learning opportunities community-wide, making Helena a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Join us as we reflect on our busy and productive fall of activities, the tremendous impact it has on all our lives, and on those who help make it happen.  Then join us as we embark on another year of supporting those who make a difference.

Fabulous Firsts

With the help of generous sponsors and schools, we distributed award winning, hardcover books to each new first grader in the district (over 500 in all).  Children who appreciate reading early in their lives, achieve higher academic success.

Carnival Classic

Our biggest year yet, over 2,000 people helped kick off the start of another school year with 45 activity booths, food, and youth entertainment at this year’s Carnival Classic in Memorial Park.

Great Ideas Grants

We distributed over $20,000 to teachers in November to fund innovative and replicable learning projects for the classroom, funds not typically available in school budgets.

Let’s Talk About Great Teachers

Whereas they don’t need a pat on the back to do a good job, we appreciate the opportunity to recognize great teachers who go the extra mile for their students.  In October we honored seven of the many teachers who inspire, applaud, challenge, and empower their students to become their best selves.

Great Conversations

Not all learning happens in the classroom.  At this year’s Great Conversations, we hosted over 300 people who enjoyed a great meal along with great discussion about relevant topics from memory loss and World War I, to campaign finances, reality television and the history of tequila.

We’ve enjoyed an outstanding fall and we feel blessed to be a part of the Helena community.  As we look forward to 2013, and programs like Trading Places, Celebration of Excellence, another round of Great Ideas Grants, Vigilante Academy and more, we hope you will join us by supporting our work.  Make a financial gift of support to HEF and show your appreciation for the teachers, administrators, and students who help to make Helena a healthy and vibrant place to live.  It’s easy online here.
