This fall, the Helena Education Foundation collaborated with elementary school teachers and local businesses and individuals to provide backpacks containing a variety of PE and music equipment for all 3,500 K-5th graders in the Helena School District so that all elementary students could have their own materials to use – whether they are learning at school or learning from home. The packs include jump ropes, rhythm sticks, CANDO noodles and other items that can no longer be hygienically shared among students and from class to class. Students will use these items to learn rhythm, coordination, cardiovascular endurance, counting and math, dance and creative movement.
The Specialist Backpacks will keep students safe when learning in person; provide consistent and equitable learning opportunities for students who opt for remote learning; and/or provide high quality and equitable learning for all students in the event that schools close. The Specialist Backpack program is one of many programs in our public schools designed to provide high-quality learning while keeping all our students and staff safe and healthy.
Thank you to the many businesses and individuals who made this program possible for Helena’s K-5th graders.
